Ybarra Bluebonnet Celebration
MARINA HINOJOSA

Ybarra students in 3rd - 5th grades, who read five or more 2018-2019 Texas Bluebonnet Books, participated in our annual celebration at Ybarra Library. The students engaged in book talks as they reviewed and discussed each book. They then voted for their favorite book using paper ballots. After they participated in the activities, they enjoyed cookies and juice. Thank you to each Ybarra student who was a part of this exciting experience!

Ybarra Elementary wins "Battle of the Books"
MARINA HINOJOSA

Ten schools, five books and hundreds of pages later, the PFC Mario Ybarra Elementary team emerged as repeat champions of the Elementary Battle of the Books. Teams representing all WISD elementary schools faced off at the Weslaco East High School Library answering questions from selected books.

“The students did such a great job,” Renee Dyer, WEHS Librarian and Battle of Books moderator said.  “This is such a fun way to promote reading.” The Battle of Books is one of the many programs that reinforce the district’s focus on literacy.

The selected books were: “The Bicycle Spy,” by Yona Zeldis McDonough; “Stef Soto, Taco Queen,” by Jennifer Torres; “Me and Marvin Gardens,” by Amy Sarig King; “Hello, Universe,” by Erin Entrada Kelly; “The Harlem Charade,” by Natasha Tarpley.
